Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, December 18, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Marie "Malute" Walters Calais, 95, who passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Father Paul Broussard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Shannon Johnson and Stonewall Johnson. Her great grandchildren will serve as Gift Bearers. "Malute," as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was a devout Catholic, who prayed the Rosary daily, and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting, doing crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune every evening. "Malute" was a wonderful cook and looked forward to many Sunday gatherings with her family and friends, where she would prepare meals for everyone to enjoy. Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Calais, Adelle Calais Guidry and her husband, Lloyd, all of Cecilia, Elizabeth "Betty" Calais Gaubert and her husband, Robert, of Atlanta, GA, and Evelyn "Poonie" Calais Huval, of Cecilia; 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lanley Joseph Calais; a grandson, Troy David Guidry; her parents, Phillip and Hortense Gautreaux Walters; eight brothers, Valex, Simon, Alfred, Joseph, Stanley, Murphy, George, and Louis Walters; and four sisters, Agalise Duhon, Mabel Barnes, Hilda Guidry, and Jeanne Walters. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from time 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. Pallbearers will be Dane Huval, Joe Guidry, Donald Guidry, Cameron Guidry, Michael Gaubert, and Dammon Gaubert. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Gaubert and Lloyd Guidry. Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia is in charge of arrangements.
