Marie Florine Rawls

Breaux Bridge - Marie Florine Rawls, 91, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, where she maintained a second home. She was born in 1925, in Breaux Bridge, to Lydia Maria Granger Castille and Joseph Clayton Castille, Sr. Florine was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, and was a schoolteacher, having taught in Lake Arthur and Bogalusa, Louisiana early in her career. After moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she taught at St. Thomas Catholic School for several years. Florine continued her education having earned a Masters Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is best remembered as having taught hundreds of students American History at Gulfport High School for over twenty-five years, retiring in 1990. After retirement, she traveled extensively across the United States as well as Canada and Europe. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting, and watching historical documentaries. Survivors include her sons, Michael Rawls and his wife, Kep, of San Francisco, CA, Robert Rawls and his wife, Judith, of Beaumont, Texas, and Clifford Rawls, of Gulfport, MI; granddaughter, April Michelle; brother, Clayton Castille and his wife, Lorraine, of Breaux Bridge; sister, Sylvia Thibodeaux and her husband, Harris, of Breaux Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews in the Breaux Bridge area. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Rodney Matthew Rawls. The family wishes to express its appreciation and thanks to Florine's caregivers, Veronica Flugence, Verica Alexander, and Carmelita Zenon; her physician, Dr. Michael Alexander, M.D. of Lafayette General Medical Doctors; and the staff of Intrepid Home Health Care, including Pam and Karen. A gathering of Florine Rawls' family and friends will begin at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Friday March 10, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home, Breaux Bridge, LA, with a rosary at 7:00 PM, and continue on Saturday at 7:00 AM until 11:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, with Interment following at St. Bernard Cemetery No.2 in Breaux Bridge. Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Gift bearers will be Lydia Thibodeaux and Amy La Grange. Pallbearers will be L.J. LeBlanc, David Castille, Danny Castille, Calvin LaGrange, Ike Nomey, and Keith Zerangue.
