New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Iberia for Marie Louise "Cissy" Schwing, 70, who passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in Beau Pre Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A native and resident of New Iberia, Marie Louise "Cissy" Schwing was born on November 26, 1946 to the late Jules Blanchet Schwing and Marie Louise Landry Schwing. She was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Carmel Academy. A retired elementary school teacher, Cissy obtained her Degree in Education from Springhill College in Mobile, Alabama. She then taught at an Army base in Germany. Upon returning to the U.S., Cissy began teaching at Coteau Elementary in New Iberia, then at Avery Island Elementary until she retired. Cissy loved to travel abroad, and especially loved entertaining friends at her cabin in Angel Fire, New Mexico, her condo in Florida, and her camps at False River and Cypremort Point. Although Cissy never had any children of her own, she lovingly adopted all of her nieces and nephews. She was known and loved for her generousity and her fun personality, and will be dearly missed. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Edmond "Beaver" Schwing and wife Deborah of New Iberia, John "Johnny" E. Schwing, III of Lafayette, Charles "Knobby" E. Schwing of New Iberia; sister, Susan M. Schwing of Lafayette; sister-in-law, Barbara Schwing of New Iberia; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother, Jules Anthony "Tony" Schwing, and infant brother, John Edmond Schwing. A special thanks goes out to her caring and excellent sitters, Trula Coleman and Delilah Matthews. The family also wishes to acknowledge the wonderful work of Acadiana Hospice in guiding us through this trying time with our loved one. . Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331 is in charge of arrangements.
