Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Marie Lillie Zeringue, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at The Carpenter House - St. Joseph Hospice.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Friday and continue on Saturday at 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7 pm on Friday.
Rev. Gregory Cormier will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Myra Robin and Melissa Landry. Gift Bearers will Mike Zeringue, Glenda Dohman, and Ramona Dupuis.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
Born on Christmas day, Lillie was one of 10 children. Lillie learned, at an early age, the value of hard work and as a young girl, worked in the crop fields to help support the family. At the age of 14, she met the love of her life and at the tender age of 15, she married her loving spouse of 66 years until the time of his death in 2011. Lillie had a passion for cooking and was a fabulous cook, making most of her meals from scratch. Most recently, she enjoyed playing Bingo and visiting with her friends at J Michael Morrow retirement home. She retired from St. Martin Parish School Board after working 37 years as a custodian at Cecilia High School.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of J Michael Morrow, Dr. Kirk Elliot, Gabe Robin, Dr. Warren Degatur, Lafayette General Medical Center, and St. Joseph Carpenter House for the wonderful care given to her over the years.
She is survived by her son, Michael D. Zeringue and wife Judy of Lafayette; daughters, Glenda Ann Dohman of Cecilia, Ramona Elizabeth Dupuis and husband John Wayne of Arnaudville, Myra Ann Robin and husband Michael of Cecilia, and Melissa Ann Landry and husband Kenneth of Metairie; brothers, Carroll Thomassee of Cecilia, Paul Thomassee and wife Pam of Lake Charles, and Gerald Thomassee and wife Beverly of Anahuac, TX; sisters, Georgie Boutte of St. Martinville and Laida Berard and husband Chester of Cecilia; grandchildren, Leslie Burgess and spouse Neville, Casey Dohman and spouse Kimberly, Scott Zeringue and spouse Dana, Ryan Zeringue, Bethaney Babin and spouse Kenneth, Amber Melancon and spouse Scott, Johnathon Dupuis and spouse Kelly, Demi Scheinuk and spouse Drew, Morgan Landry, Marissa Painter and spouse Patrick, and Nicholas Robin; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Roy Zeringue; parents, Louis Thomassee Sr. and Amanda Angelle Thomassee; brothers, Nolan Thomassee, Louis Thomassee, Jr., and Ernest Thomassee; and sister, Sue Alice Guidry.
Pallbearers will be Casey Dohman, Scott Zeringue, Ryan Zeringue, Johnathon Dupuis, Nicholas Robin, and Kenneth Landry.
