St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Marilyne Champagne Owen, 64, who passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scripture readings will be read by her godchild, Phyllis Roy, and her granddaugher, Devyn Broussard. Gift bearers will be Harley Melancon, Drew Huval and Gabby Bruno, her great nieces.
Marilyne enjoyed playing Pokeno and Bingo, going camping, attending large family gatherings and cooking for her family and friends. She was always available to anyone who needed at the nursing home, as well as for her family and friends. Marilyne was loved by so many and will forever be remembered for her joyous laughter, warm smile, and her expression of kindness she gave to everyone.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Owen, of St. Martinville; her daughter, Arleen Broussard and her husband, Brent, of Coteau; two sons, Ryan Owen and his wife, Kara, of Lafayette, and Dwane Champagne, of Houston, TX; a step-son, Richard Owen, of Oklahoma; a step-daughter, Julie Rhodes and her husband, Peter, of Oklahoma City, OK; her brother, Nolan "Boo" Champagne, Jr. and his wife, Francine; and sister, Rosalie Melancon and her husband, Nicky, all of St. Martinville; five grandchildren, Devyn Broussard, Layton Broussard, Jaxon Owen, Dusty Rhodes, and Scotty Rhodes; one great grandchild, Alexis Rhodes; and her extended family, Nick, Callie, Rees and Sawyer Grace Francois, all of St. Martinville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nolan Champagne, Sr. and Etta Huval Champagne.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until time 10 p.m. on Tuesday and continue at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Owen, Dwane Champagne, Brent Broussard, Craig Melancon, Brian Melancon, and Nick Francois.
Honorary pallbearers will be Layton Broussard, Beau Hebert, Alton Champagne, Casey Poche, Craig Fuselier, and Scott Smith.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
