Marjorie de Blanc

March 2, 1937 — December 28, 2017

Marjorie Hanley de Blanc, age 80, passed away in her sleep on December 28, 2017, after suffering from Alzheimers disease for several years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Sunday, January 7, 2017 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, with Rev. Ed Degeyter officiating. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at Pellerin Funeral Home. Marjorie was born Marjorie Ann Hanley on March 2, 1937 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, as the only child of Avery Edward Hanley, of Washington, Louisiana, and Marjorie Faye Dearing of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Marjorie spent her early childhood years in Natchitoches before moving to New Iberia with her family in 1953. Marjorie attended Mt. Carmel High School in New Iberia, graduating in 1955. She then attended the Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now UL Lafayette), majoring in music, where she met her future husband, Michael John de Blanc, a graduate of St. Peters College in New Iberia. Marjorie and Michael were married in 1958, and had three children, Michael John de Blanc Jr., Phillip Charles de Blanc, and Catherine Rebecca de Blanc. Marjorie was a talented piano player and taught piano lessons to many children in New Iberia when her children were young. She and Michael were avid sailors and were life-long members of the Cypremort Point Yacht Club, where Michael was a past Commodore. Always loving the water, Marjorie and Michael eventually transitioned to power boats. In her later years, Marjorie was active in the St. Peters Choir and enjoyed the company of her many friends in New Iberia. Marjorie remained in New Iberia for several years after her husbands death in 2002, eventually moving to Houston, Texas to be closer to her sons. Marjorie is preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine. She is survived by her son Michael, age 57, of Houston, Texas, her son Phillip, age 55, also of Houston, her grandsons Michael John de Blanc III and Nicholas Charles de Blanc, both of New Orleans, and granddaughter Claire Alise de Blanc, of Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Alzheimers Assocation, https://act.alz.org/site/Donation2?df_id=32112&32112.donation=form1&, 225 N.
