Marvin Joseph Ambroise, Sr.

St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Marvin Joseph Ambroise Sr., 76, who passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM on Saturday. 

Fr. Marvin Gyasie, S.V.D. will officiate at the Funeral Mass.  Readers will be Harry Roberts, Sr. and Sandra Solomon. Gift bearers will be Alexiona Ambroise, Asija Ambroise, and Deslyn Ambroise.

Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery. 

Marvin's career spanned various industries throughout his life. He began his professional journey as an employee of Petroleum Helicopters International (PHI), where he dedicated his time and skills to contribute to the company's success. Following this, Marvin worked for Pennzoil for over two decades, displaying a commendable work ethic and unwavering commitment to his responsibilities.

In addition to PHI and Pennzoil, Marvin made significant contributions to Martin Mills, Petroleum Security (PetSec), and Home Depot. His vast knowledge and experience allowed him to thrive in each role he undertook. Marvin's professionalism and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Education played an integral role in Marvin's life. He graduated from Adam Carlson High School in 1964 before pursuing higher education at Southern University. In 1970, Marvin proudly received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, fulfilling a lifelong dream. 

It was during his years at both Adam Carlson High School and Southern University that Marvin discovered his passion for music. He enthusiastically participated in the renowned "Human Jukebox" ensemble-an experience that resonated with him throughout his life. Music was an integral part of Marvin's life. He had an innate love for melodies that resonated deeply within him. Whether listening to his favorite tunes or indulging in playing Solitaire on his tablet, music provided him solace and brought immeasurable joy into his everyday routine.

Outside of work and academia, Marvin enjoyed various hobbies and interests. He found solace in watching sports, particularly relishing the excitement that came from cheering on his favorite teams. Westerns and news programs were also fixtures in his television repertoire.

Marvin possessed an exceptional talent for cooking and took great pleasure in preparing family favorites like Stuffed Bell Peppers, Mirliton Casserole, Crawfish Etouffee, and other mouthwatering dishes. Always seeking culinary adventures, he eagerly experimented with new recipes such as Crawfish Jambalaya and Split Pea Soup. These delectable creations brought joy to his loved ones and showcased his immense culinary prowess.

Family meant the world to Marvin, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He recognized the importance of strengthening bonds and nurtured deep connections by championing numerous family trips to Florida. These memorable vacations served as a testament to Marvin's commitment to creating lasting memories and fostering a strong family unit.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Louise Roberts Ambroise; children, Marvin (Alicia) Ambroise, Jr., Dexter (Rachel) Ambroise, Shayla (Jeremiah) Hurst, and Courtney (EJ) Solomon; brother, James Ambroise, Jr.; grandchildren, Aliyah Ambroise, Marvin Ambroise III, Alexiona Ambroise, Trevian Ambroise, Asija Ambroise, Jeremiah Hurst, Jr., Deslyn Ambroise and Shane Hurst; great-grandchildren, Roman Ambroise and Jayden Tarver; brothers-in-law, Roy Roberts, Sr., Harry Roberts, Sr. and Collins Roberts, Sr.; sister-in-law, Elsie Gedward; godchild, Eric Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Mitchell Ambroise, Sr.; and a grandchild, Demi Jade Ambroise. 

Pallbearers will be Marvin Ambroise, Jr., Dexter Ambroise, James Ambroise III, Jason Ambroise; Arthur Gedward III, Dedric LeBlanc, Eric Mitchell, and Wayne Freeman.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Ambroise, Jr., Marvin Ambroise III, Trevian Ambroise, Jeremiah Hurst, Jr., Shane Hurst, Roman Ambroise, Jayden Tarver, Jeremiah Hurst, EJ Solomon, Wade Freemen, Sr., Larry Freemen, Brent Moore, Roy Roberts, Sr., Harry Roberts, Sr., Collin Roberts, Sr., Shantley Guidry, Kendall Guidry, Graylin Guidry, Rodney Roberts, Roy Roberts, Jr., Macbride Roberts, Collins Roberts, Jr., and Harry Roberts, Jr.

Marvin Joseph Ambroise, Sr. leaves behind a legacy filled with love, dedication, and kindness. His passing is mourned by his beloved family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him during his remarkable journey. As we bid our final farewell to Marvin, may we take solace in knowing that his spirit will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those he touched.
