Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Mary Bernice Alexander, 85, who passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. James Fallon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The Readers will be Joclyn Gilmore and Cleo A. Foster.
Mrs. Alexander was a very giving woman who would open up her home with welcome arms to everyone. She enjoyed listening to music, working in her flowerbeds, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends, those were the times that she treasured the most.
Mrs. Alexander would often tell people, "You make your bed; you're going to lie in it" - those were words that she lived by. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her son, Leroy Lewis, of Breaux Bridge; five daughters, Patricia Ann Potier (Alfred), Shirley Sam (James), Linda Sam-Anderson, Diane Castille, and Mary Louise Lewis, all of Breaux Bridge; her step son, Jimmy Lindon, of Lewisburg. She is also survived by the children of Aurlien William, Sr., who were like her own children, they are from Cecilia; two brothers, Eugene Lewis, Jr. (Shirley), and Samuel Lewis (Mary Alice), all of Houston, TX; four sisters, Mary Harris, of Galveston, TX, Theresa Wiltz (Joseph), of Lafayette, Rose Etienne (Lumas), of Galveston, TX, and Evelyn Lewis, of Houston, TX; 30 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Alexander; her companion, Aurlien William, Sr.; her parents, Eugene and Louise Alexander Lewis; five brothers, Joseph, Ernest, Larry, Paul, and Henry Lewis; and two sisters, Antonia Lewis and Verlie Alexander.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Lumas Etienne, Fabian Lewis, Henry Lewis, Joseph William, Sr., Joseph R. William, and Aurlien William, Jr.
