It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Alice Davis Wager who passed away on January 17th, 2025 at the age of 89. Born in Star Hill, Louisiana and a resident of Parks, Louisiana she passed peacefully with her family by her side. Mary Alice graduated from Port Allen High School where in her senior year she was voted the schools best athlete. Her athleticism and team spirit helped her team to win the Louisiana State Basketball Championship two years in a row. After high school Mary Alice attended business college after which most of her career was spent as executive secretary to the president of Petroleum Helicopters (Lafayette Division) for over 20 years.
After leaving PHI Mary's passion for plants and flowers led her along with her husband Chester to open Country Gardens Plant Nursery in Parks, Louisiana where she became known locally as the "Plant Lady" with the big floppy hat. Under her guidance the nursery flourished for 34 years where she made many friends along the way.
Mary Alice was a kind, loving, and generous person, always putting others needs before her own. She will be remembered for her warm smile. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Mary Alice and Chester were married for 70 years. She is survived by her husband Chester Wager and her four children, Chet Wager wife Cheryl, Bruce Wager wife Esther, Julie Iorio husband Angelo and Johnny Wager wife Peggy, ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren along with her sisters, Carol Yarbrough, Betty Bolton, Linda Thibodeaux husband Sidney and numerous nieces and nephews.
