The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, and continue on Thursday at 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, by Tina Breaux. Mary Lou was born on November 1, 1929 and spent her younger years as a country girl living between Breaux Bridge and Parks, Louisiana. She graduated from Breaux Bridge High School in 1947. She attended South Louisiana Institute (SLI), now University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). During her senior year she married the love of her life, Marcel Champagne, and was big and pregnant walking up to receive her diploma in May, 1951. She had her only child, Becky, the next month. She often laughed at the fact that Becky attended college before being born. Mary taught second grade for 30 years at Breaux Bridge Primary and did substitute teaching at St. Bernard Catholic School after retirement. She loved garage sales, walking, and bus trips with Marcel around the country. The other love of her life, approved of by Marcel, was country musician, George Strait. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Champagne and her partner, Di Boltinghouse; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Tee Landry; brother-in-law, J. O. Champagne; her grandson, Matt Carroll; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rene and Edelta Landry; her loving husband, Marcel, with whom she was married for 39 years. Pallbearers will be her grandson, Matt Carroll; brother, Donald Landry; nephew, Douglas Landry; neighbors, Eddy LeBlanc and Rob Guidry, Jr.; and City Councilman, Gary 'Bimmie' Champagne. Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Martin Hospital for their care and kindness during her short stay at their facility. Special thanks to Rose Potier, Rebecca, Leah, Nick, and all other nurses from Concepts of Care. Also thanks to Lynette Williams and Deb Maynard, her sitters, and our Angel in Heaven, Kirk 'Doc' LeVasseur. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
