Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Friday, December 4, 2020, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Mary Elaine Jean Louis, 78, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, November 29, 2020. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 8:00 am on Friday. Rev. Ugochukwu Jerome Cletus SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Amari Robertson and Timothy Robertson. Gift Bearers will be Kaegon Jean Louis and Brinzlee Dartez. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mary was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi and attended services on a weekly basis and also volunteered her time to the church. During her life she worked at St. Martin Hospital (Gary Memorial) and Breaux Bridge Elementary School. Mary enjoyed baking, cooking, cleaning, crafts, going to the casino, traveling, and caring for and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Ricky) Sam of Breaux Bridge; son, Donald (Ophelia) Jean Louis of Breaux Bridge; half-brother, John Landry of Breaux Bridge; five grandchildren, Kaylia (Jabarik) Dartez-Sebille, Trailand Dartez, Joshton (Keyauana) Dugas, Bryalon Dugas, and Shekolbi Dugas; six great grandchildren, Jabarik Sebille, Jr., Brinzlee Dartez, Kayson Dartez, Kaiden Dartez, Baleigh Dugas, and Amir Dugas; three Godchildren, Vanessa Jean Louis, Hazel Ann Joseph, and Theresa Dalcourt; sister-in-law, Audry Moore of Houston, TX; and brother-in-law, Moody (José) Jean Louis of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Melba Francis Potier; her husband, Griffin Jean Louis; two sisters, Wilma Jean Louis and Patricia Joseph; and a great grandson, Ja'Barion "JB" Sebille Pallbearers will be Kerrick Jamel Jean Louis, Sigmund Potier, Trailand Dartez, Joshton Dugas, Bryalon Dugas, and Shekolbi Dugas. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Sam, Mendell Boyance, Xavier Davis, Jabarik Sebille, John Landry, Craig Jean Louis, and Feylon Jean Louis. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Amedysis Hospice; Penny, Rhonda, Monique, Dana, Leah, Vicki, Whitney, Lakeshia, Julie, and her lifelong friend, Vergie Green, for the wonderful care given to Mary Elaine during her time of need.
