Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Mary Ann Guidry Guidry, 72, who passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Southpark Community Hospital in Youngsville, after a lengthy illness.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Father Louis Allen Breaux will officiate at the funeral Mass.
Mary Ann attended St. Bernard Elementary School through the 6th grade and graduated from Breaux Bridge High School in 1954 as class Salutatorian and received the scholarship to Southwestern Louisiana Institute in Lafayette. While in high school she represented Breaux Bridge High at the State Leadership conference at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Among the honors she received was a scholarship to L.S.U. and a gold medal. After graduation she attended S.L.I. (U.L. of Lafayette) and received her certificate in Secretarial Science. She was employed for 11 years with General Motors Acceptance Corporation (G.M.A.C.), then later went to work for Union Texas Petroleum for 12 years. ;
Mary Ann married the love of her life, Howard Glenn Guidry on November 24, 1960. She was a parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church and taught Catechism for many years and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mary Ann was an avid collector of porcelain dolls and also enjoyed traveling, dancing and listening to Cajun and Zydeco music. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family, as well as spending time with her grandsons, whom she loved and cherished. Mary Ann was a very loving and attentive wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Howard Glenn Guidry, of Breaux Bridge; her daughter, Elizabeth Liz Angelle and her husband, Dean P. Angelle, of Breaux Bridge; two grandsons, Dustin Angelle and Dillon Angelle, both of Breaux Bridge; four sisters, Lydia Rose Brown, of Dequincy, Elaine Cook, of Hardin, TX, Leanna Huval and her husband, Duane, of Baton Rouge, and Lynda Faye Belfey and her husband, Thomas, of Breaux Bridge; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gersie Guidry and Dalton A. Guidry; her grandparents, Maurice and Leota Zimmerman Guidry and Apolinaire and Nolie Menard Guidry; two nieces, Deborah Huval and Laura Huval Aucoin; and two brothers-in-law, Marcus Cook and Alton Brown, Sr.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited by Deacon Marcel Butch Hebert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Pallbearers will be Dean P. Angelle, Dustin Angelle, Dillon Angelle, Duane Huval, Gary Price, Shane Guidry, Alton Louis (Scooter) Brown, Jr., and Colin Schmitt.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Warren Degatur and the staff at St. Martin Hospital, Dr. Max LaMarche, Dr. Jorge Belgodere, Dr. Fredrico Deltoro, and the staff of LTAC of Louisiana, Southpark Community Hospital, and the numerous physicians and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center, for the wonderful care and attention they provided her during her illness.
