St. Martinville, LA - Kay, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 10, 2018 in New Orleans, LA at the age of 64. She was born on September 25, 1953 to Rita and Thomas Voorhies. She was a native of St. Martinville, LA. Kay was a 38-year resident of Loreauville after marrying Tedmund Habetz on Leap Day, 1980. She was a 1972 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy. Prior to serving as Human Resources Director at Berard, Habetz, and Associates, Inc. for 23 years, Kay was employed by the United States Social Security Administration for 12 years. She also served the local community as a Notary Public for 35 years. She was an active member of the Louisiana hot air ballooning community and enjoyed travelling with her friends and family to ballooning competitions. Kay loved cutting the grass as it brought her me time relaxation. Her children and grandchildren brought her the most joy, selflessly giving to each of them.
She is survived by her mother, Rita Durand Voorhies; husband, Tedmund Habetz; children, Taylor Habetz, Morgan Habetz, Bradford Habetz Millett and husband Ryan; grandchildren, Raegan and Karleigh Habetz, Elijah Simon, and Rucker Millett; siblings, Jeffery Voorhies and wife Annette, Christine Johnson and husband Bill, Ted Voorhies and wife Nikki, Patrice Jarreau and husband Todd, Stephen Voorhies, Michelle Belaire and husband Chris; sister-in-law, Flavia Eldridge and husband Glenn; brothers-in-law, Michael Habetz and wife Cindy, and Bruno Habetz and wife Linda; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded by her father, Thomas Voorhies, Jr.; mother-in-law, Rita Ohlenforst Habetz; father-in-law, Joseph Habetz; and her faithful four-legged companion, Molly.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 16, from 8-9:30AM at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville followed by Catholic Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. Urn bearer will be Taylor Habetz. Entombment to follow Memorial Mass.
