Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Mary Mabel "Mae-Mae" Hayes, 74, who passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at her residence after a 22 year struggle with cancer.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
Reverend Fr. Chanh Nguyen will officiate at the funeral Mass and the concelebrant will be Deacon Jim Davis. Gift bearers will be her daughters-in-law, Mary, Tammy, Dene, and Andrea Hayes. Musical selections will be performed by Patrick Menard accompanied by organist, Beth Hebert, and will include, "Surely The Presence", "Ave Maria", "Old Rugged Cross", "Be Not Afraid", and "On Eagles Wings".
Mrs. Hayes worked as a cafeteria technician for the St. Martin Parish School Board, retiring in May of 1994 after 16 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. Her most treasured times were those spent with her family and friends, but most especially with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Steven John Hayes and his wife, Mary Cormier, Allen James Hayes and his wife, Tammy Daigle, Randy Lee Hayes and his wife, Dene Domingue, all of Breaux Bridge, and Jason Dale Hayes and his wife, Andrea Dor, of New Iberia; three brothers, Nickes Stelly, of Milton, Lee Stelly, of Breaux Bridge, and Alex Stelly, of Lafayette; five sisters, Elba Stelly, Beverly Boudreaux, both of Lafayette, Theresa Stelly of Baton Rouge, Shirley Daigle, of Lafayette, and Rena Guidry, of Eunice; three grandchildren, Jeremy Neal Hayes, Starbuck Hayes, both of Breaux Bridge, and Lauren Hayes, of New Iberia; three step grandchildren, Nicholas Lyons, Annie Lyons, and Samual Lyons, all of Breaux Bridge; and four great grandchildren, Tori Hayes, Tristen Hayes, Gage Hayes, and Kaiton Hayes, all of Breaux Bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hayes; parents, Albert and Anna Savoy Stelly; three brothers, Laly, Jacques, and J. B. Stelly; and two sisters, Regina Pellerin and Lela Stelly.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday; 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday; and continue at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
A rosary will be recited by Larry Boyer at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Pallbearers will be her four sons, Steven, Allen, Randy, and Jason Hayes, and her grandsons, Jeremy Neal and Starbuck Hayes.
Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons and step grandsons.
The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, her nurse, Jolene, Deacon Jim Davis, her aide, Linda, Hospice volunteer, Gwyn Berard, Eucharistic Minister, Newton Dupuis, Dr. James Cole and the Miles Perret Center, for the wonderful and compassionate care and attention given to her.
