Mary Dauphinet Latiolais

May 19, 1922 — June 6, 2009

Catahoula - Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, June 8, 2009, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, for Mary Dauphinet Latiolais, 87, who passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at her residence. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula. Father Donald Pelous will officiate at the funeral Mass. Gift Bearers will be Courtney Borel and Jennifer Landry. Mrs. Latiolais was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, where she was a member of the St. Rita Altar Society and served as a C.C.D. teacher for many years. She was the first person from Catahoula to graduate from high school. Mary was an excellent seamstress and crafter and enjoyed the countless hours she spent doing just what she loved. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Gabriel Latiolais, of Catahoula; two daughters, Cathie Latiolais Champagne and her husband, Merrill, and Rebecca Latiolais Borel and her husband, Kirk, all of St. Martinville; one brother, Richard "Fala" Dauphinet and his wife, Lories, of Catahoula; one sister, Isabella Wiltz, of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Jamie Champagne, Cory Champagne, Jennifer Champagne Landry, Courtney Borel, and Clay Borel; and five great grandchildren, Koa Champagne, Kalei Champagne, Elijah Landry, Alexys Landry, and Kaylee Borel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Isabella Bourque Dauphinet, Sr.; three brothers, Herby Dauphinet, Joseph Dauphinet, Jr., and Adam Dauphinet; and two sisters, Bertha Citty and Elsie Boudreaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Dion Hall from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continue at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Kirk Borel, Merrill Champagne, Jamie Champagne, Cory Champagne, Clay Borel, and Benjamin Landry. Honorary pallbearers will be Koa Champagne, Kalei Champagne, and Elijah Landry. Pellerin Funeral Home, (337.332.2111) is in charge of arrangements.
