It was on Wednesday, under the sign of Pisces, February 23, 1921, a child was born, the ninth child of ten siblings to the late Blacksmithman Odelon Chenier and Quilter Elzina (Harris) Chenier, named Media Mary Chenier in Rayne, Louisiana. Media completed her pilgrims journey on April 2, 2017 at 7:21 p. m. at her home in Arnaudville, Louisiana.
On March 12, 1921, Media was baptized. On age seven she received the First Communion and at age twelve she and her sister, Lucille Chenier received the Sacrament of Conformation. Medias love for Christ and obedient to the ordinance of the Catholic faith, there she began to teach her nieces, nephews, and neighbors children how to recite and pray the Hail Mary, the Glory Be and the Our Fathers Prayer. It is known by her niece Mildred Boast that she was a dedicated and firmed religion teacher and when they did not get it right, she often popped them on the forehead and put them on their knees beside her.
Media was united in holy matrimony to the late farmer Walter Mallet, Sr., and was married for over sixty years. To this union, nine children were born: Donald, Peter, Mary, Walter, Rosa Lee, LeAnna, Roseann, Elizabeth and Joyce.
Media Mary attended and completed her middle school education at the Red Top Elementary in Bellevue, Louisiana. She was a religion teacher, hairdresser; (Processor, hot comb & Puller) and a cook. She was a very wise woman in financial affairs; always kept the business in order. Her zeal for serving and caring for others was not only seen far away but felt through her children and family especially, through her grands. Oh! How they meant the world to she and her husband, Walter. Her giving, loving, and selfless nature was the driving force to her living.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odelon and Alzina (Harris) Chenier; her husband, Walter Mallet; two sons, Peter and Walter (Mildred) Mallet; four grandchildren, Jerome & Selby Daigle and Alissa & Byran Mallet; one great grandchild, Samaya Bell; five sisters, Virginia Chenier, Lillian Chenier (John) Randle, Odel Chenier (John) Robertson, Beatrice Chenier (Curly) Thomas, and Laura Chenier; three brothers, Kasier Lazard, Maurice (Cora) Chenier and Roger (Phillis) Chenier; one nephew, Herman (Lois) Charles whom she readed at birth and one son-in- law, Donald McGee (Rosa) Lawson.
Love beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things. The very essence of that love will remain constant in the hearts and minds of her children, Donald (Laura) Mallet, Mary L.
