New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 pm on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Matthew Joseph Babineaux, 63, who passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in Lafayette.Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home, and will continue on Monday from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm.A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm Sunday. He is survived by two daughters, Genee Romero, and Monique Derouen (Nicholis); sister, Phyllis Babineaux (Vernon Trahan); two grandchildren, Baylee Renee Romero and Aubree Rose DeRouen and his friend of 59 years, Phillip Trahan.He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Rita Judice Babineaux.His brother: George Babineaux JrHis sister: Cynthia Babineaux Lopez and her husband Lester Lopez,Grandparents, several aunts and uncles, his son in law whom he loved as his own son, Rene Romero Jr., and his good friend, Danny Leblanc.Matthew Joseph Babineaux was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on December 25, 1957 to the late George and Rita Judice Babineaux. He was a 1976 graduate of NISH, then attended the “trade school” (SLCC) where he studied to be a diesel mechanic and was one for many years. He was easy going, an awesome friend, and a great mechanic. He loved his dog, Bella and his cat, Nawnoo. A loving father and grandfather and brother, Matthew will be deeply missed. In his younger years if anyone needed their vehicle or motorcycle repaired, he was the man to call. Matt also enjoyed doing paint and body work on vehicles for many years in his spare time. He was very well known and trustworthy. He was a dear friend to many. He was a very good mechanic and took pride in his work and helping others. He was also a good prankster.Matt was always an avid car, truck, and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed racing and attending the racetrack in Donaldsonville and state capital. He had a need for speed and burning rubber. He loved tinkering with cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and attending car shows. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters, Baylee Renee, and Aubree Rose (aka- “little rose” as he loved to call her)When he was relaxing, he enjoyed watching shows like Roadkill, Street Outlaws, Counts Customs, Fast N Loud, Barret Jackson Auction, Impractical Jokers, Investigation ID, Swamp People, and River Monsters.Pallbearers will be Nick DeRouen, Vernon Trahan, Brian Broussard, Phillip Trahan, Pat Breaux, and Brian Minvielle.Honorary pallbearer will be Shane Thibodeaux.Special thanks to Dr. Robert Lahasky, Dr. Steven Saccaro and the staff at Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana; all of Matt’s doctors who have been caring for him over the years, the doctors and nurses at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, and the doctor and staff at St. Joseph Carpenter House in Lafayette and RN Jared Verrett and the staff with Community Home Health.
