St. Martinville A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Maude Thibodeaux Champagne, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Iberia Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, and continue on Monday at 7:00 am until 10:30 am. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday.
Fr. Rusty P. Richard will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Rita T. Guidry and Dru Bourque. Gift Bearers will be McKenzi Bienvenue, Erin Barras, and Carly Bourque. Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Champagne never missed attending her 4 pm Mass at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church on Saturdays. She enjoyed every holiday and loved getting together with her family and cooking them a delicious meal, no matter what the occasion was. Maude enjoyed going shopping and playing Bingo and Pokeno with her friends at the Council on Aging every Thursday.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Joseph (Ellen) Champagne of Piscayne, MS; three daughters, Pearl Bienvenue (Wiltz) of St. Martinville, Lucy Segura of New Iberia, and Sheryl Barras (companion, Tommy Boutte) of St. Martinville; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Paul Champagne; her parents, Emile and Elise Barras Thibodeaux; five brothers, Elie, Edwin, Willie, Francis and Patrick Thibodeaux; four sisters, Angella Barras, Angelle Huval, Angelina Allemand, and Evelyn Myers; her son-in-law, Burnice "Coon" Segura; and a grandson, James Bienvenue.
Pallbearers will be Joey Bienvenue, Matthew Bertrand, David Jones, Buck Barras, Brian Champagne, and Cody Bertrand.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Barras, Edwin Allemand, Tyler James Bienvenue, Ronald Champagne, Wiltz Bienvenue, Tommy Boutte, Valarie Sonny Bourque, and Mel Bertrand.
