Maude Gutekunst

July 29, 1922 — April 15, 2012

St.Martinville - A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Maude Eastcott 'Scottie' Robinson Gutekunst, who died on April 15, 2012 in her home in St. Martinville, LA, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Cade, LA to George and Maude Robinson. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and continue on Tuesday at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 7p.m. on Monday. Fr. Donald Pousson will officiate at the Memorial Mass. Scriptures will be read by Henry Lagarde and Gerry LeBlanc. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 67 years, Octave Otto Gutekunst, Jr.; nine children: Mary Morgan, Carol Lagarde, Charles Gutekunst, Yvonne Kolarik, Christine Berard, Patricia Gutekunst, Claire Rogers, John Gutekunst, and Jo Catherine Gutekunst; their spouses: Hank Lagarde, Eva Gutekunst, Bill Kolarik, Dan Berard, Ron Rogers, and Avis Gutekunst. She is also remembered by seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, and nephew, John Steven Selby. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Albert Victor Robinson and Maude Therese Steckler Robinson; her sister, Dorothy Steckler Robinson Selby; and her son-in-law, Elemore Morgan, Jr. Well-known for her reserve and her strict sense of fair-play, Scottie was loved by her family for her warm love, her sense of humor, her intellect, and her ability to get any joke, some of which she generated herself. Her mother-in-law, Mrs. Octave Gutekunst, Sr., would say in her French accent, 'Oh that Scottie, she is so good to her children, she treats them like company.' She loved to be visited by family and friends and had an ongoing concern for life to work out well for others. She read everything and could sew or knit anything. Scottie started her career as a Chemistry and English teacher, but spent most of her life educating children and grandchildren. She was almost unbeatable at Crazy Eights, could recommend a variety of books people might want to read, and delighted in seeing new places, whether they be castles in Scotland or the sand/gravel pit in Parks. Tea on Wednesday nights was always best when someone brought new jokes, a crazy obituary, or a friend she didn't know yet. She will be greatly missed. Pellerin Funeral Home, 112 New Market St., St.Martinville, LA 70582, (337.394.9121), is in charge of arrangements. To view on-line obituary and sign guestbook, go to www.pellerinfuneralhome.com
