Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at St. Bernard Catholic Church's Borel Center in Breaux Bridge for Maurice Berard, 92, who passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at St. Agnes Healthcare & Rehab Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:00 am until 1:30 pm on Saturday. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am on Saturday. Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert will officiate at the Funeral Service. Reader will be Tessa Berard. Gift bearers will be Kassi Berard and Trisha Reed. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Berard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and cutting grass. During his free time, he liked spending time on the water crawfishing, watching Wheel of Fortune, and singing and listening to music. His most cherished moments were spending time with the people he loved most, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Douglas Berard and wife Della, Jeff Berard and wife Laura, Dane Berard and wife Mary all of Breaux Bridge, Phillip Berard and wife Carol "Chicken", Kenneth "Pete" Berard and wife Tracey both of Parks; daughters, Catherine Poche and husband Roy of Saint Martinville, Molly Berard of Breaux Bridge, Arlene Matte and husband Roland of St. Martinville, Tessa Berard of Breaux Bridge; special granddaughter he raised, Amber Robin and spouse Kyle of Breaux Bridge; brother, Chester Berard and wife Laida of Cecilia; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Berard; mother, Bella Berard; brothers, William Berard, Bennett Berard, Dewey Berard, George Berard; two sisters Theresa Champagne and Pauline Savoy. Pallbearers will be Cory LeBlanc, Chris Poche, Kale "Blue" Berard, Brady Berard, Kutter Berard, and Judd Prioux. Honorary pallbearers will be his children, Glenn Thibodeaux, Roy Poche, Roland Matte, Kyle Robin, and Gasper Leger. Mr. Berards family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of St. Agnes Nursing Home, Drs. Warren and Ben Degatur, and the staff of St. Martin Hospital, for the wonderful care given to him during his time of need.
