Maydelle’s greatest joy was her family and she devoted her life to creating a nurturing home for her husband of 72 years and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She found great joy in gathering with family and made sure that her legendary pralines were always on hand.

She lived a vibrant life and loved completing jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren, fishing, dancing and listening to Cajun music. In fact, she and her husband could often be found dancing at La Poussiere on Saturday nights; and if they couldn’t make it to La Poussiere, they were dancing in their living room. She also had a love of art and creating, which she expressed by dabbling in the visual arts and crocheting intricate, beautiful pieces that are treasured by many. She was profoundly kind and gentle and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Dupuis; her sons Alvin “Boo Boo” Dupuis (Janice), Gerald “JJ” Dupuis (Gail), Robert Dupuis (Rachel), Larry Dupuis (Danita), and Dwayne Dupuis (Barbara), and one daughter, Martha Wetzel; her siblings, Clarence Theriot, Joyce Ann Champagne, Ameline Theriot, and Mary Jane Ozenne; and fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alexi Theriot, Sr. and Jeanne Blanchard Theriot; and her siblings, Milton Theriot, Alexi Theriot, Jr., Lillian Degeyter, Mildred Degeyter, Odell Lovell, and Aline Guidry.

Pallbearers will be Larry Dupuis, Daniel Dupuis, Glynn Dupuis, Gerard Dupuis, Sean Champagne, and Trey Bijeaux.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Charlotte Roy for ensuring that Maydelle was always radiant, Kourtney Dupuis for her selfless care and nursing skills, and the staff of Traditions Health Hospice.
