McCraig Huval, or Mac, as he was known, was a force to be reckoned with. He was strong willed and well known for his generous heart and good cooking. He grew up in the country with strong family ties. He helped out in his grandparents' dairy farm in Cade and was influenced by their down-to-earth wisdom and their respect for the land.
By the time he was in high school in St. Martinville, Mac was driving a 1964 poppy red Ford mustang and had met the girl of his dreams, Kathy Bruno. They were married two days after graduation in the St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church and celebrated their 50th anniversary last May. He was quite the Cajun chef and loved cooking for friends and family more than anything. McCraig would feed anyone who was hungry. He was also very kind to animals and made sure all the pets ate well, too. As rugged an exterior that he could have, he was also nurturing and compassionate with a soft spot in his heart.
A hard working family man, he wasn't demanding of others but he knew exactly what he wanted and accomplished his goal. Some of his best times were spent on a riding lawn mower. He enjoyed the ride and took pride in keeping the property neat and tidy. He was a down-to-earth realist and always slept with one eye open, protecting his home and family like a papa bear.
And what about his name? It was one-of-a-kind, just like him. The backstory is that his parents, Lillian and Curtis, named him after the handsome actor Gordon McCrae. They adjusted the name a little to make it into "McCraig". He could well be the only one in existence ever named McCraig. The NAME McCraig?... It is probably safe to say he has taken that unique name with him. The MAN McCraig is another story... a story that will be forever remembered by all who met him.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 51 years, Kathy Bruno Huval; son, David Huval and wife Bridget; daughter, Rachel Meyers and husband Paul; sister, Patricia Ann Huval; grandchildren, Danielle Meyers and fianc Dylan Duchamp, Devon Guidry, and Josie Basas and fianc Zach Dauzat; great grandchildren, Amara and Troy Guidry, and Liam and Taigen Duchamp.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Francis Huval; and his mother, Lillian Segura.
Pallbearers will be David Huval, Paul Meyers, Dylan Duchamp, Dudley Menard, Jerry Duplantis, Stacey Migues.
