Melanie Theriot Robinson

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula for Melanie Theriot Robinson, 54. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Monday by Rev. Richard Fabre. Rev. Richard Fabre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula. Melanie Theriot Robinson, the daughter of Joseph and Alice Theriot and sister of Susan Theriot Cook and Linda Theriot Lavergne, passed away Thursday, April 5th, surrounded by loving family who witnessed her bravery and tenacity in her 19-year struggle against cancer. Again, and again, she beat the odds, returning to the life and people she loved. Melanie will be cherished for her devotion to family and friends, her joie de vivre, and her strength and courage. Early each morning when Melanie drove to work, she looked at a hand-written Post-It note on her dashboard that said, The joy of the Lord is my strength, a quote from Nehemiah 8:10 in the Bible. The complete verse continues, Go celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. Dont be dejected or sadfor the joy of the Lord is your strength! During their 29 years of marriage, Melanie and David celebrated life with feasts and hospitality, barbecues and boils, drinks and dancing! She enjoyed nights spent with family playing Scrabble, Rummy, and a glass of wine. She treasured the simple pleasures of life such as flower gardening, bird-watching and creating crafts with the grandchildren. Of Course, working in the Library, she was an avid reader. Melanie loved adventure. It seemed she and David were always drawn to the limitless coastal horizons; the shoreline along Lake Louise in Banff, the rocky harbors of New England, snorkeling the coast of Mexico, enjoying the beaches of Saint Croix and the Virgin Isles, and driving the scenic coastal highway of California. They also made the modern pilgrimage to see Chip and Joanna Gaines Magnolia Farms in Waco and Pioneer Woman in Osage County, Oklahoma. Melanie passed from this world wearing a soft #shiplap T-shirt, a reminder of her favorite show Fixer Upper. We were inspired by Melanies devotion, by her joy for living, and by her courage. She refused to quit, risking numerous clinical trials and outlasting every doctors most optimistic estimate. Doing so, Melanie has helped pioneer new treatments for generations of others facing grave illness. We were blessed to have known and loved Melanie throughout her life. We trust that her values and strength will live on in each of us and we will celebrate each day as she would, like a party! Her family wishes to thank all of those friends who have taken good care of us through the good days and bad, and for those who are able to honor Melanies life by their presence with us today and in the days to come.
