St. Martinville - A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Pellerin Funeral Home for Melinda Frances Barras, 78, who passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at her residence.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville, on Saturday, December, 9, 2023, from 8:30 am to 11:00.
A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am Saturday.
Deacon Keith Duhon will officiate the Memorial Service.
Melinda Frances Barras, a beloved social worker for the welfare department, passed away on November 23, 2023, in St. Martinville. She was born on December 21, 1944, in Aruba. Melinda was a dedicated and compassionate individual who spent her life helping others in need. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those she touched.
Melinda's career as a social worker was shaped by her empathetic nature and sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. She tirelessly advocated for the well-being of others, working diligently to ensure that everyone's rights and needs were met.
Passionate about education, Melinda earned her Bachelor's Degree in Spanish at Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, which provided her with a solid foundation for her career. She used her knowledge and expertise to navigate complex situations and provide meaningful support to those she served.
Outside of work, Melinda had an adventurous spirit. She once served as a flight attendant and dental hygienist before devoting herself to the welfare department. Her diverse experiences allowed her to connect with people from different walks of life and understand their struggles more deeply.
One of Melinda's greatest passions was singing in the St. Martin de Tours Church Choir. Her melodic voice filled the sacred space for many years, bringing solace and uplifting spirits during church services. Through music, she touched hearts and uplifted souls, demonstrating her unwavering faith.
Melinda had a nurturing personality and an unconditional love for animals. She would often go out of her way to care for other people's pets when they were unable to do so themselves. Her commitment to animal welfare showcased her kindness towards all living beings.
Always ready to lend a helping hand, Melinda held a special place in the hearts of those who knew her best. Whether it was offering advice or actively participating in community initiatives, she radiated warmth and compassion wherever she went.
Melinda was a loving daughter, mother, sister and friend to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Antoine "Tony" Barras; daughters, Julianne Barras and Anna-Lise Barras; sister, Mary"Stacey" Berberich.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Eula Locker; sister, Sally Link;
and her brother, Tommy Locker.
