Melva Hollier Baker

New Iberia – A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Pellerin Funeral Home, for Melva Hollier Baker, 91, who passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Entombment will be at a later date.

Deacon Durk Viator will officiate.

Visitation will be Saturday, from 8:00 am until 11:00 am at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary will be prayed at 10:15 am.

A native of Coteau, Mrs. Baker was born on February 17, 1932, to the late Edier and Antonia Romero Hollier, and had been a resident of Mandeville since 1997. She had a passion for quilting, and could be found every Saturday at the Mandeville Trail Head selling her quilts. Staying active until this past January, Mrs. Baker also enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo, and participating in the Senior Exercising Classes.

Survivors include her daughter, Ramona Latiolais (Kelvin); son, Patrick Duane Baker (Lisa); grandchildren, Brock Latiolais (Danelle), Blake Latiolais, Janie Langley (Dale), Sonya Bayard (Brannon), Shaune Baker (Brittney), and Kyle Baker; 14 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; and a sister, Earline Jenny (Jim).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Jay Baker, son Keith Baker, and seven siblings.
