Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge for Melvin Joseph Barras, 86, who passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017, at St. Martin Hospital. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm on Tuesday. A rosary will be prayed at 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert will officiate at the Funeral Service. Scriptures will be read by Gina H. Theall and Brooke H. Richard. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Melvin loved working in his yard and garden. Providing homegrown vegetables for his family and friends brought him joy. He loved his family and was proud of being married to the love of his life, Betty, for 63 wonderful years. He was extremely proud of his grandsons. He also enjoyed his morning coffee with his buddies that he had done for years. He is survived by his loving spouse of 63 years, Betty Jane Barras; his son, David Barras and companion, Sherry Huval of Breaux Bridge; his daughter, Melissa B. Trahan and husband Jean of Scott; his grandchildren, Austin and Alan Trahan of Scott; and his sister, Shirley Dupuis; and his god-daughter, Tracy Huval of Cecilia; and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Barras, his mother, Judith Barras, his brothers, Wesley Barras and Dorsey Barras; and his sister, Diane Perkins. Pallbearers will be David Barras, Austin Trahan, Alan Trahan, Jean Trahan, L. J. Dupuis, and Luke Dupuis.
