New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 1, 2015, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Melvin Paul Darcey, 74, who passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, in Lafayette. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 10:45 AM. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Darcey was born on March 31, 1941 to Oscar and Louise Aucoin Darcey, and was retired from Teche Armature Works after 44 years of service. His hobbies included duck hunting, fishing, going to the camp in Grand Chenier, and bowling. He was a member of the Oilmen's Bowling League, and a past board member of the LA Sugar Cane Association, and a past member of the Krewe of Camelot. Mr. Darcey was a kind hearted, gentle loving man, who was very patient, and had a witty sense of humor. He loved his two children and their spouses, but most of all his four grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and he loved them so very much. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sherry Guidry Darcey of New Iberia; children, Christy Lannie and husband David of Lafayette, Chad Darcey and wife Carla of New Iberia; brother, Donald Darcey and wife Catherine of New Iberia; grandchildren, Josh Lannie, Taylor Lannie, Carmyn Darcey, Christopher Darcey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alfred Darcey, William "Dub" Darcey, and Johnny Darcey, Sr. Pallbearers will be David Lannie, Josh Lannie, Johnny Darcey Jr., Rene Quebedeaux, Christopher Darcey, Raymond Pete, and Jim Ramoin. Honorary pallbearers include Donald Darcey, and members of Grand Chenier Hunting Group. The family would like to give special thanks to Dianne Harrison, Hospice Compassus, and the nurses and physicians at Lafayette General Hospital.
