Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Melvin James Francis, 53, who passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at his residence. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday. A rosary will be prayed at 8:00 am on Saturday. Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be George Williams and Roger Griffin. Gift Bearers will be Prenella Roberts and Crystal Ledet. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Melvin was a member of Knights of Peter Claver Council No. 49. He enjoyed working out at the gym, helping others, barbecuing, keeping his car and yard extremely clean, and attending his weekly Masses at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving daughter, Debaney Francis of Breaux Bridge; mother, Prenella Francis of Breaux Bridge; sister, Freda Francis of Breaux Bridge; companion, Eunita Gedward of St. Martinville; stepfather, Sterling Solomon of Breaux Bridge; and a step-granddaughter, Quianna Gedward. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivory Francis; maternal grandparents, Martha and Percy Ledet; and paternal grandparents, Felecia and Adolph Francis. Pallbearers will be Arthur Noel, Michael Noel, Donald Ledet, Ricky Gary, Kenneth Francis, and John Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the St. Francis of Assisi Knights of Peter Claver Council No. 49.
