Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Melvin "Beddo" Lewis, 80, who passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Thursday at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge. A rosary will be recited at 8:00 am. Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Jamecia Lawrence and Bonnie Adair. Gift Bearers will be Blayne Thibodeaux, Kirrion Sam, and Emily Lewis. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Melvin, better known as Beddo to his family and friends, worked as a construction laborer for about 15 years then started his own lawn care service, which he did for 30 years. He worked hard and was a good provider for his family. Beddo loved cutting grass, playing cards and going to the casino. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lois Valsin Lewis; three sons, Alvin Lewis and wife, Mary, Sydney Sylvester, and Darrel Wiltz; five daughters, Yvette Joseph and husband, Kenneth, Cheryl Wiltz, Jessica Wiltz, Lakisha Bruno and husband, James, and Nicole Damond; four brothers, Herman Lewis and wife, Vergie, of Cecilia, Johnny Lewis of Houston, TX, Bradley Lewis and wife, Jill, of Houston, TX, and Larry Lewis and wife, Sylvia, of Cecilia; two sisters, Lou Velma Abraham of Breaux Bridge, and Mary Bell Lewis of Houston, TX; 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Bradley Lewis; his mother, Mable Jean Batiste Valerie; two sisters, Marie Nelson and Hazel Valerie; two brothers, Paul and Gussie Valerie; three brothers-in-law, Alton Williams, Walter Nelson, and, Milton Abraham; and his nephew, Judge Carl Williams. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Joseph, Byron Williams, Travis Sam, Tamron Alexander, Treyvias Alexander, and Marcello Damond.
