Meonce "Latch" Latiolais, a Port Engineer and life long resident of Breaux Bridge was a devoted husband, father & a man of loyalty and integrity. He unselfishly served in the Army during the Korean War where he was a motor pool mechanic. After his service, he continued his dream job as a mechanic where he was an employee of Tidewater Marine Services, Inc. for 38 years and retired in 1998. Shortly after retirement, he and his wife began to live out their retirement dreams of traveling and camping in their motor home alongside of family and friends.
Meonce enjoyed sharing stories of past adventures, spending quality time with his grandchildren & great grandchildren & visiting previous colleagues that soon turned into great friendships. When he wasn’t traveling or spending time with family, one could find him out back tinkering with any engine he came across.
This gracious and wise father was always ready with a funny antidote or a real-life experience that showed a path to be a more engaged and better person. He taught many lessons to many people, so that in the end, he will always be considered a father by those lucky enough to share their experiences together.
His generous life will forever be cherished by his dog, Honey; children, Sharon L. Mertz, Yvette M. Latiolais, Eddie J. Latiolais & Jeanese L. Raymond (Aaron); grandchildren, Grant A. Mertz (Esther Tyree), Valerie C. Mertz (Brandon J. Credeur), Riley L. Latiolais, Nickolas P. Carriere, Alysse G. Carriere; great-grandchildren, Mia R. DesOrmeaux, Grayson D. Credeur & Braizen K. Carriere.; his brother, Gerald Latiolais. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Genevieve R. Latiolais; son, Jimmy D. Latiolais; son in-law, Aaron W. Mertz; parents, Florent and Bella Latiolais; and four brothers, Levy Latiolais, Benoit Latiolais, Howard Latiolais & Raymond Latiolais.
