Mervin J. Guidry, better known as "Pop" was a dedicated and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. Pop was a fighter to say the least. Despite his health issues he always pulled through and he never complained. He enjoyed riding around his pond that he built for his grandchildren and using or working on his equipment. Pop was the family MacGyver and could fix anything and everything. His pride and joy was his family. Pop always talked about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed making coffee for his close friends, Benny, T-Ram, Bernard, and Calvin. Pop will be remembered for his kind heart, giving tootsie rolls to all the great grandchildren, and the love he had for his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving children, Penny Poche and husband Brent, Jude Guidry and wife Angie, Jody Guidry and wife Darlene, and Johnnie Guidry and wife Elizabeth; sons-in-law, Ricky Latiolais and Luke Bourque; brothers, Elmer "Baboo" Guidry and Sidney "PeeWee" Guidry and wife Mitzi; sister, Velma Borel and husband Harold; 17 grandchildren, Cherish , Mitchell, Ramie, Ravin, Danielle, Ryan, Crystal, Hailey, Heidi, Cassie, Logan, Taylor, Myles, Cy, Zachary, Gannon, and Collin; and 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Guidry; father, Sidney John Guidry, Sr.; mother, Nola Guidry; two daughters, Gwen Latiolais and Bonnie Bourque; and his caregiver, Scott Courville.
