New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Michael Paul Boroto, 75, who passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in New Iberia.
Private burial will be at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Boroto was born on February 15, 1943 in Tarentum, PA to the late Michael and Florence Markwell Boroto. He proudly served our country for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, with his last assignment at Johnson Space Center in Houston. After moving to New Iberia, Mike started his civilian career as Director of Human Resources at Dauterive Hospital. After leaving Dauterive, he worked as an EMT for Acadian Ambulance, then worked in Medicare Claims until retirement.
Mike was a volunteer firefighter for over 30 years, lastly at the BOM Volunteer Fire Dept. where he also served as Chief. A member of the American Legion Post 335, he served as Treasurer and Vice Commander. Mike was very active in IPAL, and he also volunteered at the Shadows on the Teche, and at the Bayou Teche Museum. Beginning in 1992 with the first Louisiana Open at Le Triomphe, Mike volunteered every year at the 13th hole. In 2017, he received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Mike served as president of the Iberia Parish Chapter of AARP and was a Safe Driving Instructor. He loved telling stories, and was the master of one liners.
Survivors include his wife, Willis Kingston Boroto of New Iberia; children, Teresa Lee of Maumelle, AR, Dennis Boroto of Tulsa, OK, and Cheryl Deierlein and husband Matthew of Mayflower, AR; sisters, Sally Weeter of PA, Joan Kopniky and husband Al of PA, Barbara Kerlik and husband Stephen of PA; brother-in-law, Howard Kingston and spouse Lorraine of New Iberia; grandchildren, Andrew Lee and wife Virginia, Neale Deierlein, Benjamin Deierlein and wife Alexis, Samuel Deierlein, Cassie Deierlein, Logan Deierlein; and a great grandchild due in March.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Boroto.
The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff of Consolata Nursing Home and Heart of Hospice for the excellent care given to Mike.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bayou Teche Museum.
