Michael Fitzgerald

Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 30, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Michael Fitzgerald, 62, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 27, 2023. Born on October 25, 1961, he was the epitome of a kind-hearted and joyous individual.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Friday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and will continue Saturday from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. 

A rosary will be prayed by Deacon Ken Soignier at 6:00 PM on Friday. 

Rev. Joseph Brasseaux will officiate at the funeral mass. Deacon Ken Soignier will concelebrate. Readers will be Dawn Marks and Krystal Melancon. Gift bearers will be Austyn Stelly and Arlei Patin.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. 

Michael was a dedicated and hardworking man, having spent over 30 years as a salesman for Schilling Distributing Company. Even after retirement, he couldn't resist the call to work and found happiness as an employee at Piggly Wiggly in Cecilia. Those who had the pleasure of encountering him there would often witness his joyful spirit, as he would sing and dance as he worked. Most of the time he was singing his favorite song, "Tee Nah Nah". His infectious enthusiasm brightened the lives of everyone around him.

A devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Cecilia, Michael's unwavering faith carried him through difficult times. He dutifully served as an usher during the 7 AM Sunday mass and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Outside of work and church, Michael had a passion for football, particularly cheering on his beloved New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, engaging in activities like cycling and cooking. Above all, his greatest joy came from his family. He treasured every moment spent with his daughters and grandchildren. His love and devotion to his family knew no bounds. Michael will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his pride and joy: his daughters, Ashley Stelly (Matthew) and Brandi Patin (Bo); grandchildren, Arlei Patin, Cane Stelly, Mason Patin, and Austyn Stelly; the love of his life, Sharon LaPorte Fitzgerald; nephew, Tyler Fitzgerald; and a host of dear family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Carroll Fitzgerald; mother, Dolores Marks Williams; step-father, Dennis Williams; brother, Kenneth Fitzgerald; paternal grandparents, Alec and Agnes Fitzgerald; and maternal grandparents, Rene' and Eloise Marks. 

Pallbearers will be Bo Patin, Mason Patin, Matthew Stelly, Cane Stelly, Myles Stelly, Robert Montet, Tyler Fitzgerald, and Shannon "Pee Mon" Menard.
