Henderson ;- Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, ;at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Henderson, for Michael James Hayes, 61, who passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 11:00 pm on Wednesday, and continue ;at 7:00 am until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Scriptures will be read by Sherbin Colette and Jaimee Camacho. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Henderson. Michael was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having honorably served his country in the United States Army. He served as the Chief of Police in Henderson for two years and was employed by the St. Martin Parish Sheriffs Department, as a Deputy, for 22 years. Mikes pride and joy was his grandson, Christopher 'Chrisco' John Hayes, who lived with him for the last 8 years - Mike lived for his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Cherice (Edward Edmond) Hayes of Henderson; his brother, Wilven (Evelyn) Hayes of Henderson; his sister, Thelma H. Dupuis of Henderson; his grandson, Christopher "Chrisco" John Hayes; his father-in-law, Harris Wiltz of Parks; two brothers-in-law, Louis Ray of Cecilia and Doyle "Lee" (Tonya) Wiltz of Grand Bois; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Hayes, Bernice Hayes, both of Henderson, and Donna (Ricky Douet) Robin of Grand Bois. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lila Wiltz Hayes; his parents, Thompson Hayes, Sr. and Ophelia Martin Hayes; two grandchildren, Ridge Robin and Christina Aucoin; his brothers, Howard, Jeffery, Fred, Lionel, and John Thompson 'Payane' Hayes, Jr.; his sister, Elaine H. Ray; two brothers-in-law, Walter Dupuis, Jr. and David Robin; and his sister-in-law, Jane G. Hayes. Pallbearers will be Doyle "Lee" Wiltz, Riley Hebert, Edward Edmond, Sherman Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, and Jerry Hayes. Honorary pallbearers will be Warren Hayes and Christopher Hayes.
