New Iberia - Michael Paul Lasseigne, 68, a long-time resident of New Iberia, LA, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, July 3, 2020. A private Mass of Christian Burial, followed by private entombment, will be held for the immediate family. Born in New Iberia, Louisiana on June 18, 1952, Michael P. or Mike, as he was affectionately known by all, lived the first decade of his life in the idyllic community of Weeks Island. There, he enjoyed all the joys the island community had to offer - fishing and hunting with relatives and friends; exploring the salt processing plant and mine with his dad; freely running through the creeks and woods, all the while making friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. Michael remained closely connected with family and friends from the Weeks Community throughout his life. Entering the workforce with Morton Salt Company, Michael eventually transitioned to the energy industry by living and working for two years with ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia. After he returned home to New Iberia, he continued working in the energy industry with various companies throughout Iberia Parish, including the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve at Weeks, LA. Michael ultimately earned his CWI, which carried him throughout the U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast energy corridor until his retirement in 2012. Michael enjoyed a challenge, and he was able to master anything he put his mind to. Throughout his life, Michael enjoyed the outdoors, playing and watching sports, gardening, golfing, and billiards, just to name a few. Michael loved to cook. Arguably his favorite hobby, he enjoyed spending the day cooking for family and friends - no one ever went away hungry or empty-handed. An avid animal lover, of both dogs and cats, Michael was always in the company of a loyal pet or two. His vast knowledge was acquired from conversation, as well as printed material. Always an avid reader, Michael’s thirst for knowledge continued throughout his life. His knowledge and memory were remarkably strong and accurate to his final day on earth. Even in today’s digital world, he read daily newspapers, monthly magazines, and unlimited non-fiction books about history, politics, and current events. Throughout his work and travels, Michael’s heart was always in the Iberia Parish area, close to friends and family. He was a kind, generous soul who was always willing to help anyone in need - with no need or expectation of reward or repayment. Michael was known to perform kind deeds for neighbors without being asked, and he was always happy to share the bountiful vegetables from his garden with friends, family, and neighbors alike. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know and love him. Michael Paul Lasseigne is survived by his brother, Bryan and wife Connie, sisters, Claire and husband Kenneth Hebert, and Cindy Lasseigne, nephews/spouses, Jason & Michelle Hebert, Ryan & Casie Hebert, Barron & Jenni Lasseigne, Joel & Shanna Lasseigne, nieces/spouses, Kay H. & Charles Gisclair, Lori L. & David Maldonado, Alicia L. & Philip Mayeux, Mindy H. & Michael DeRouen, and step-daughter, Bridgette Martinez, as well as numerous great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda LeMaire, parents, Theophile Leroy and Lorence Hebert Lasseigne, and brother-in-law, M. Doyle Hebert, and numerous relatives. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Hebert, Barron Lasseigne, Ryan Hebert, and Joel Lasseigne.
