St.Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Monday, December 26, 2011, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel, in St. Martinville, for Michael James Smith, 42, who passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his residence, after a brief illness. Fr. Buddy Breaux will officiate at the funeral service. Interment will follow at Methodist Cemetery in St. Martinville. Michael was a native of Loreauville and was employed by Specialized Environmental Resources in Carencro. In his free time he enjoyed playing pool and going to the casino with his family and friends. He loved being outdoors - driving airboats and crawfishing. Survivors include his parents, James Daniel 'J.D.' and Rebecca Babineaux Smith, of Loreauville; his beloved companion, Chandea Romero of Coteau; two sons, Lane and Logan Smith of St. Martinville; one daughter, Madia Smith of St. Martinville; three sisters, Sheilia Blanchard and companion, Charles; Ramona Breaux and companion, Terry, all of New Iberia, and Sherry Branscum of Baton Rouge; his maternal grandmother, Madia Babineaux of Charenton; and four special aunts, Diane Smith, Cindy Berthelot, Diana Carline, and Linda Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walton Babineaux; and paternal grandparents, Archie O. and Mary Brannenburg Smith. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011. A rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be Reggie Smith, C.J. Breaux, Dominic Breaux, Marvin Smith, Darrell Babineaux, and Paul Babineaux.
