Minos Armentor

New Iberia - Minos Henri Armentor age 93, died peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2007 in the afternoon. He was blessed with a long life, a loving family and many, many friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Pellerin Funeral Home. Friends are welcomed to join the family for visitation on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home. Visiting hours will continue on Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Minos was born in 1914 along Bayou Petite Anse near Rynella to Fenelon Armentor and Aglai Boudreaux. At age 5 his family moved to New Iberia where he attended public school; graduating in 1931 as valedictorian from New Iberia High School. That same year he entered LSU and received his LLB degree from LSU Law School in 1936. Mr. Armentor was elected to the Louisiana State House of Representatives in 1940 and resigned the seat when he was appointed Assistant District Attorney of the 16th Judicial District of Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes. He held that position from 1941 to 1954. ?In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy, serving on a liberty tanker in the Pacific Fleet near the Solomon Islands and Okinawa until his discharge, as Lieutenant JG in 1945. Following the end of WWII, he returned to New Iberia and resumed the practice of law. Mr. Armentor played an active role in Louisiana education. He was appointed to the LSU Board of Supervisors by Governor Earl K. Long, serving from 1958 to 1972, the last two years of this service as chairman. He also served as the LSU representative on the Coordinating Council for Higher Education from 1969 to 1972. He remained an avid LSU alum and football fan for many years. In the area of public service, Mr. Armentor served from 1964 to 1982 as City Attorney for the City of New Iberia in the administration of J. Allen Daigre. He was a delegate from Iberia Parish to the 1973 State Constitutional Convention. Mr. Armentor also served as President of the Iberia Parish Bar Association and the New Iberia Rotary Club, Vice President of the Navy League and was on the Board of Directors for City Bank and Trust. After 50 years legal practice, he partially retired at the age of 72. He is survived by daughters, Mary Beth and husband Tam Delcambre of New Iberia, Alice and husband Tom Layne of Missoula, Montana, Nancy and husband Jonathan Lees of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and son, Lloyd and wife Suzette Buford Armentor of New Iberia. He had 10 grandchildren and 5 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mina Harriet Bowers; sisters, Irene Earnest and Elida LeBlanc and brothers, Lloyd and Junius Armentor.
