A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Landry was born on September 5, 1944, to the late Placide and Claudell Schexnayder Landry. After graduating from NISH in 1962, he pursued his passion for automobiles by becoming an auto mechanic. He worked at several places throughout his life, including Automart, A&P, J.P. Thibodeaux, Arceneaux Ford, and Landry's Vet Clinic.
However, Red was more than just a dedicated worker; he had a zest for life that extended far beyond the confines of his professional endeavors. He found immense joy in dancing, and going to the casino. He was involved in many organizations that reflected his caring nature. For an impressive half-century span, he dedicated himself to Woodmen of the World and held the esteemed position of President for many years. As a member and past president of the Creole Gourmet Club, he relished sharing exquisite meals with fellow food enthusiasts.
Red's faith was unwavering, and he found solace and community at St. Peter's Catholic Church. For countless years, he served as the head usher, extending warmth and hospitality to all who entered. His commitment to his faith was an integral part of his life, and his presence within the church will be deeply missed.
Mr. Landry is survived by the love of his life, his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine Romero Landry; two children, Lori Henson Landry (Mike), and Dr. Joey Landry; two granddaughters, Lacie Landry and Rebekah Henson; and four beloved fur babies, Bailey, Bella, Bree and Brexie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Kyzar (and husband Erle); two nieces, Charlotte and Cherie Kyzar; sisters-in-law, Katie Romero-Moore, Marylane Melancon Romero, and Mabel Theriot Romero; mother-in-law, Alzire Romero; and father-in-law, Robley Romero.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Community Hospice, especially Zach David, for extraordinary care and compassion on this long journey; and also to Dr. Atchi; the staff of Consolata Nursing Home; and family and friends for support and prayers which meant so much during Red’s illness.
Remembering Red's journey reminds us all to cherish our loved ones fiercely and to embrace every moment we have together. Rest in peace, Red. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
