St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Roman Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Modeste Poirrier Melancon, 93, who passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009 at her residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Her son, Father Bill J. Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be her grandchildren, Scotty Boudreaux and Amy Robertson. Gift bearers will be Buddy Boudreaux, Caitlin Melancon, Megan Melancon, and Collin Boudreaux, her great grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Joseph Melancon and his wife, Dorothy, and Father Bill J. Melancon; two daughters, Nell M. Boudreaux and Irene M. Boudreaux; a daughter-in-law, Marie D, Melancon, 17 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Elie Melancon; her parents, Anatole Poirrier, Jr. and Adelina Escagne Poirrier; a son, Ray Paul Melancon, Sr.; three brothers, Leopold, Fernest, and Wilson; and two sisters, Clarice and Enola; and two sons-in-law, Dudley Boudreaux and Harold Boudreaux, Sr.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and continue at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Josh Elie Boudreaux, Darren Melancon, Brian Melancon, Rene Melancon, Scotty Boudreaux, and Harold Boudreaux, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Melancon, Jr. and David Boudreaux.
The family would like to give special thanks to AAA Hospice for the wonderful care they provided her.
