Cecilia – A Military Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the Paul Angelle Park in Cecilia for Charles M. Lalanne, 83, who passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Charles honorably served in the United States Army and Louisiana National Guard. He served and retired with 30 years of service. He was a part of Operation Desert Shield/Dessert Storm (Iraqi Freedom). Charles received several medals of honor during his military career: Army Achievement Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Armed Permanent Change of Station (Reserved); 2 Army Reserve Component Achievement Medals; National Defense Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Army Lapel Button, Marksman M16 Rifle; 3 Louisiana Commendation Medals; Louisiana Emergency Service Medal; Louisiana General Excellence Medal; 2 Louisiana Longevity Awards; Louisiana Retirement Ribbon and Louisiana War Cross. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 289 in Parks, LA.
After retirement in the military, he worked for St Martin Sheriff’s Office under the guidance of Sheriff Ronnie J. Theriot for approximately 4 years. Charles’ love and passion for the military has been passed to his family and he was a proud uncle of a United States Army Soldier, grandfather of United States Army Soldier and a future United States Army Soldier.
Charles was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother in law, father in law, son in law, uncle, godfather and friend. He loved serving his country and never met a stranger; always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the New Orleans Saints and Ragin Cajuns football and was a baseball fan of the New York Yankees and St Louis Cardinals. His favorite past time was going to the casino, playing solitaire, and most importantly, spending time with his family
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ann LeBlanc Lalanne of Arnaudville; sons, Charles L. "Chuck" Lalanne (Penny) of Richardson, TX and Christopher "Chris" Lalanne (Lori) of Breaux Bridge; daughter, Michelle L. Williams (Zachary) of Arnaudville; grandchildren, Zachary Lalanne (Nicole) of Richardson, TX, Megan Lalanne (Brandon Dominick) of Kenner, Jacob Lalanne of Euless, TX, Camille Bunting (Jamie) of New Orleans, Drew Lalanne of Montgomery, AL, Sarah Lalanne of Richardson, TX, PVT Ian Boutte, Beau Boutte and Hannah Williams all of Arnaudville; step grandchildren, Phillip Domingue (Shelby Pepper) of Breaux Bridge and Tylor Boutte (Kaityln Landry) of Kinder; great grandchildren, Marguerite and Maggie May Dominick of Kenner and Caden Lalanne of Richardson, TX; brother-in-law, Dale LeBlanc (Sandy) of Breaux Bridge; sister-in-law, Rachel LeBlanc of Lafayette; his nephew and godchild, Adam Tarver of Breaux Bridge; and his nephews, PFC Chase Tarver (Brooke) and their children Catherine and Colleen of Fort Riley, KS and Cory LeBLanc (Stacy) and their children Kaleb, Collin and Kennedie LeBlanc, Robbie and Kayleb Comb and Silyn Meche of Breaux Bridge,.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William and Edna Miller Lalanne; paternal grandparents, William E. and Linnie Mosely Lalanne; maternal grandparents, Ephriam and Alice Bergeron Miller; in-laws, Anthony "Tony" and Marie "Mae" LeBlanc; and his first wife, Jane Richard Lalanne.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Lafayette General Hospital ER for the extraordinary care given to Charles and the spectacular communications with his family during his very short stay there.
