Murphy Duplechien

Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, September 26, 2011 , at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Murphy Joseph Duplechien, Jr., 64, who passed away on Friday, September 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a short but courageous battle with cancer . Father Michael Delcambre and Deacon Ken Soignier will conduct the services. Readers will be Larry Taylor and Roxane Quin. Gift Bearers will be Jeri Taylor and Lucille 'Fannie' Thibodeaux. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Murphy was a native of Cecilia and a resident of Baton Rouge . Survivors include his best friend and partner, Nedda Taylor and her son, Michael both of Baton Rouge . His three sons, Logan Duplechien and fianc, Michele Stelly both of Poche Bridge, Orry Duplechien and Cabe Duplechien, both of Cecilia. Also survived by two brothers, Billy Duplechien and his wife, Velma of Coteau Holmes and Kenneth Duplechien and his special friend, Lucille 'Fannie' Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy Duplechien, Sr. and Rena Courville Duplechien; his brother, Rickey Duplechien and his nephew, Chris Duplechien. Murphy served in the ;United States Army from 1966-1969. He received his Bachelors Degree from LSU and worked in the oil industry for several years. Later, he worked, both at University of Louisiana, Lafayette and at Louisiana State University, retiring from LSU in 2009. Murphy enjoyed camping, fishing, and cooking with family and friends. He especially loved cooking crawfish that was caught by him and his best friend, Frances 'Frere' Melancon. His most enjoyable time was spent crabbing with his sons. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m . until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continue at 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Monday. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Logan, Orry, Cabe, Billy, Ritchie Duplechien, and Michael Taylor. Pellerin Funeral Home, 2238 Bushville Hwy., Cecilia, LA (337-667-6464) is in charge of arrangements.
