Murphy Mendoza

New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Murphy J. 'Murph' Mendoza, 69, who died on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Lafayette. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday. Visitation will continue Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. A native of Jeanerette, Mr. Mendoza was a 1964 graduate of Jeanerette High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served our country during the Vietnam War. 'Murph' had a great personality, and was an excellent baseball player, and golfer. He was very proud of his children and his grandson, Ian. His love for them gave him the will to live every day, and too never give up. He was the rock that held them together, even when they were the ones taking care of him. Survivors include his daughter, Kristi Mendoza Breaux and husband Mallory of Coteau; son, Kevin Mendoza of Lafayette; brothers, Mitchell Mendoza and wife Phyllis of New Iberia, Calvin Mendoza and wife Charlotte of Missouri; grandson, Ian Breaux of Coteau; step granddaughter, Kennedy Breaux of Erath; nieces and nephews, Michelle Mendoza Cloud and husband Richard of Jeanerette, Molly Mendoza Stelly and husband David of Sunset, Mannie Mendoza, Sr. and wife Brandi of Jeanerette, Scott Mendoza, who is also Murphs godchild, and wife Allison of New Iberia; and his friend and former wife, Sharon Lester and husband Russell of Cankton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oday and Mabel Andre Mendoza; and a sister, Eva Mendoza Ball.
