St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11 a .m. , on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Murphy Joseph Oubre, 85, who passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his residence. Rev. Rusty Richard, will conduct the services. Reading the scriptures will be Stephanie Latiolais and Susan Oubre. Gift bearers will be Rebecca Resweber, Laurie Landry, Bryan Oubre and Terrell Oubre.Entombment ;will follow at St. Michael ;Mausoleum in St. Martinville. Murphy had a passion for farming from an early age. Born to farming parents, Otto and Louise Boutte Oubre on September 8, 1926, Murphy was the oldest of five children. A native of Loreauville, he resided in St. Martinville. Murphy passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and caregivers. Murphy farmed sugar cane, rice, soybeans, cattle and crawfish in both Iberia and St. Martin Parishes. He lived his life for farming and his family. He was a true pioneer. He cared deeply for his loving wife of 65 years, Gladys Judice Oubre. He had a faithful companion, Jack, an adopted rat terrier who accompanied him daily. Murphy invented and patented the three row sugarcane cultivator. His pastime was purchasing and refurbishing antique tractors. He was one of the original Teche Bank Board Members and recently received recognition for 46 years of service to the Board. Mr. Oubre is survived by his wife, Gladys; he is the father of Rebecca Oubre Resweber and her husband, Don 'Tuffy', Terrell Joseph Oubre and his wife, Susan Judice Oubre, Laurie Oubre Landry and her husband, Louis and Bryan Godfrey Oubre and his wife, Lorie Broussard Oubre. He is also survived by one brother, Allen Oubre and two sisters, Doris Oubre Decoux and Penny Oubre Langlinais; sister-in-law, Bobbie Theriot Oubre, grandchildren, Stephanie Resweber Latiolais, Christopher Resweber, Errin Oubre Rabeaux, Brandon Oubre, Jacob Oubre, Dylan Landry, Connor Landry, Barret Oubre and Brody Oubre and great grandchildren, Gracie Latiolais, Alec Latiolais, Alexia Oubre, Jordi Resweber, Gabrielle Rabeaux and Cole Rabeaux.He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Louise Oubre; his brother, Alton Oubre, Sr.; his sister-in-law, Ethel G. Oubre and his brothers-in-law, Hugh Langlinais and Ned Decoux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Brandon Oubre, Jacob Oubre, Christopher Resweber, Dylan Landry,Connor Landry, Barret Oubre and Brody Oubre. We would like to express our gratitude of many years of service to his caregivers, Elizabeth Jacob, Helen Anthony, Dorothy Zenon, Virgie Tate, Priscilla Allen and Lise Romero. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
