New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Nancy Leigh Delahoussaye Kibodeaux, 40, who passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007, St. Martin Parish.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum, in New Iberia.
Rev. Gary Schexnayder will be the Celebrant.
Nancy is survived by her parents, Harry Lee and Hazel Dupre' Delahoussaye of New Iberia; maternal grandfather, Lawrence Dupre'; her sister, Laurie Delahoussaye Stelly of New Iberia; brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Amy Delahoussaye of Chesapeake, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Chanelle Thibaut Delahoussaye of Lafayette. Nancy was known as ""Nanny"" by her beloved and adoring nieces and nephew, goddaughter, April Stelly Torres and husband, Hector and their daughters, Maliah and Sophia, all of Peoria, Arizona; goddaughter, Kiley Delahoussaye and Kasey Delahoussaye of Chesapeake, Virginia; and godson, Cade Thielen of New Iberia, who was much like a son to his ""Nanny and Bubba"", as well as by godson Tristan Roles of Brandon, Florida. Father Gary, long considered a part of the family, celebrates, mourns, counsels and travels with the Delahoussayes. Nancy thought of him as another brother.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ida Duplechain Dupre' and paternal grandparents, Editha Hulin Delahoussaye and Clodo ""Nego"" Delahoussaye.
A teacher in the public school system for more than 15 years, Nancy had an obvious and contagious passion for educating and caring for children. Her career included years in special education, and at the time of her death, she was preparing for another year as a kindergarten teacher at Sugarland Elementary, a school very dear to her heart.
Indicative of her tireless work on behalf of children, Nancy was an active volunteer with the Iberia Boys and Girls Club. Nancy also had a relationship with Scouts which spanned nearly 30 years. As a teenager, she was a valued part of a girls and boys group at Philmont Scout Ranch and Explorer Base in New Mexico. Then as a member of the Bayou Girl Scout Council, Girl Scouts of the United States of America bestowed upon her the Girl Scout Gold Award, scouting's highest honor.
With joy and seemingly unending stamina, Nancy joined her husband, Brudley, in many community activities and supported all of his endeavors. They served together as volunteers for the American Red Cross and were members of CERT, the Community Response Team of the President's Citizen Corp.
For all of her amazing work, Nancy would not want to be remembered as a ""saint."" She was true to herself, always genuine, so much fun and funny, and she loved, as Nancy would say, ""to clown.""
It is because of all of these special qualities that, rather than merely grieving her death, Nancy's family and friends will forever celebrate her beautiful life of selfless love and devotion.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, August 13, 2007, from 12 Noon until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., in New Iberia. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM on Monday evening.
In the coming days, a memorial fund will be established through a local bank to support the charitable causes which meant so much to Nancy and Brudley.
Pellerin Funeral Home of New Iberia, 337.365.3331, is in charge of arrangements.
