St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville for Nary Smith, Sr., 74, who passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 pm on Saturday.
Nary served his community in law enforcement for 34 years as the Assistant Chief of St. Martinville, LA and was highly respected by his friends and colleagues. He never looked at his position as a job because of the love he had for his community. Nary had strength not only in the community, but in his personal life and was looked up to by his family. He played football in high school and he was an avid pool player, whose opponents referred to him as a "Pool Shark".
He is survived by his wife, Linda Menard Smith of St. Martinville; son, Nary (Duweda) Smith, Jr. of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Nary J. Smith, III, Kentoa Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Summer Coleman, Bianca Archon, and Brandon Spain; great grandchildren, Ariyahlyn Miller, Jkyrin Smith, Trevor Joseph, Jr., A’mayla Archon, Rahumad Gander, Dareyarn Bernard, and Danaé Bernard; three brothers, Clarence (Shirley) Smith of Lafayette, Randy Smith of St. Martinville, and Donald (Connie) Smith of Lafayette; and six sisters, Shirley Simon of St. Martinville, Alfreda (Calvin) Mallery of St. Martinville, Octavia (Lovelace) Broussard, Prenella Smith, Jenella (George) Malveaux, and Mary Ann Smith, all of St. Martinville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Smith, Sr. and Evelyn Narcisse Smith; three brothers, John Calvin Smith, Sr., William (Jo Ann) Smith, and Kirby Smith; and a great grandchild, Ireland Smith
