Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, Monday, September 4, 2023, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, for Nelma Hebert Martin, 81, who passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Merit Health in Biloxi.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday, September 3, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will continue on Monday from 8:00 am to 11:15 am.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Sunday.
Father Reed Bellingham will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Amanda McCarty and Alyssa Bradley. Gift Bearers will be Kaleb Martin and Katelyn Martin.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum - No. 2.
Nelma was born on November 12, 1941, in Breaux Bridge. Nelma was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of everyone around her with her gentle spirit and kind heart. She exuded a sense of grace that was admired by all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have been blessed by her presence.
One of Nelma's greatest passions was painting. She had a natural talent for capturing the beauty of the world with her brushstrokes. Each stroke conveyed emotions that words often fail to express. Through her artwork, she expressed the depth of her soul and left behind an impression that will forever be cherished.
Above all else, Nelma treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were truly the light of her life. She showered them with endless affection and wisdom, ensuring that they felt loved and supported at every step of their journey. Nelma's legacy will continue through the love and values she instilled in her future generations.
Nelma leaves behind a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Her gentle smile, caring nature, and unwavering love will be dearly missed. She was a pillar of strength for her family, a source of inspiration for her friends, and an angel among us.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Martin; sons, Gary Martin (Tammy) and Ricky Martin (Tracy); daughters, Michelle Wyatt (Teddy), Monique McCarty (Roger), and Tammy Martin; brothers, Rocky Hebert (Cindy), Rod Hebert (Charlotte); sisters, Rebecca Blanchard (John) and Terri Leblanc (Mike Mowad); grandchildren, Dylan McCarty, Austin McCarty (Amanda), Kaleb Martin, Katelyn Martin (Grant); great-grandchildren, Braylee McCarty, Waylon McCarty and Margaret "Maggie" McCarty; brother-in-law, Robert "Bobby" Martin; and her sister-in-law, Sue Ann Rients (Steve).
She is preceded in death by her father, James Hebert; mother, Bernice Boudreaux Hebert; grandparents, Joseph and Edith Hebert and Andre and Adele Boudreaux; infant brother, Richard Hebert; godchild, Reed Hebert; in- Laws, Kearney and Emily Benoit Martin; and her brothers-in-law, Lenny R. Martin and Danny R. Martin.
Pallbearers will be Austin McCarty, Dylan McCarty, Rod Hebert, Gabe Leblanc, Braxton Hebert, and Grant Richard.
