Nelson was born in Arnaudville to Lillian and Jules Landry. He was the oldest son of four children. Having lost their father at a young age, Nelson stepped up as the man and father figure of the house. He worked the fields along with his mother and three siblings while still managing to graduate with honors.
Nelson was a hardworking, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was employed as a Geo Technical Exploration Supervisor for the DOTD, traveling the state for many years. He looked forward to the summertime where his wife and children could travel with him.
He enjoyed cooking with family and friends and believed in having a good time the Cajun way. Nelson was wise and funny, and a great storyteller. The same stories got better every time! He never met a stranger and there wasn't anything he couldn’t fix. He was a jack-of-all-trades and willingly helped everyone with his frugal handyman skills and big heart. He was strong in many ways, seemingly invincible.
Nelson carried a positive attitude, letting almost nothing bother him. He never forgot where he came from and lived with gratitude for what he had and what was done for him. Always thanked you or caregivers with a big smile. He spent lots of time growing cucumbers and tomatoes around his meticulous lawn. You could always find him on his lawnmower
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Sybil. They were a perfect pair; both wise, funny in different ways, and provided guidance to all. He was a father figure to many. He lived with integrity and confidence and taught us by example not to take life seriously. He didn’t worry about little things and could laugh at whatever life would bring. Nelson retired early to care for his wife when she fell sick in 2000. They were an inseparable pair and a true example of love all the way to the very end. He will be deeply missed by all.
Nelson is survived by his two daughters, Patty Bergeron and her husband, Corey and Tilly Landry; grandchild, Kennedy Bergeron; and two sisters, Geraldine "Toot" Babineaux and Renella Boyer and her husband, Patrick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Ann Fisette Landry; parents, Jules and Lillian Chautin Landry; and one brother, Harry Landry.
Pallbearers will be Corey Bergeron, Fred Davis, Warren Erato, Anthony Boyer, Randy Boyer, and Perry Calais.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Heart Hospital and all of his caregivers, past and present, that took excellent care of Nelson.
