New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Virgil Paul Palumbo, 65, who passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 in New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 pm until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, and continue on Wednesday at 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Tuesday.
Rev. Buddy Breaux will be the Celebrant. Scripture will be read by Sandy Habetz and Connie Louviere, and Gift Bearers are Lexi Palumbo and Joyce Breaux.
Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Virgil Paul Palumbo was born on November 7, 1951 to the late Mabel Campbell Palumbo and Luther Palumbo, Sr. He formerly owned Palumbo's Auto Repair, and worked for Arceneaux Ford and Iberia Rentals. He was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. Virgil was an avid hunter and fisherman, but his greatest joy was taking his family and friends fishing with him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie Landry Palumbo; son, Kevin Palumbo and wife Amber of New Iberia; sister, Joyce Breaux and husband Gerald of New Iberia; and two grandchildren, Lexi Palumbo and Seth Palumbo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Luther "Sonny" Palumbo, Jr. and Wayne Palumbo.
Pallbearers will be Seth Palumbo, Stuart Breaux, Carl Landry Jr., Chad Bouton, Greig Tyler, and Brett Bourque.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kilburn Landry and Carl Landry III.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the hospice staff for excellent care.
