Nita Melancon Berard

VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Nita Marguerite Melancon Berard, 97, who passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at St. Agnes Nursing Home in Breaux Bridge. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Father Paul LaFleur will officiate at the Funeral Mass. The Readers will be Catherine Poche and Tessa Berard, and the Gift Bearers will be Demi Thibodeaux and Bailey Perez. Nita owned and operated a grocery store on Doyle Melancon Road for 40 years. Nita enjoyed playing cards, Pokeno, Bingo, gardening, cooking, working with arts and crafts, and was an exceptional seamstress. She was a member of a Rosary Group and loved helping people; she was a very giving soul, and always gave straight from her heart. Survivors include her daughter, Edmonia "Sis" Hardy, of Houston, TX; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delphine G. and Sylvain Melancon, Sr.; a son, Darrel Dupuis; three sisters, Judith Berard, Beatrice Melancon, and Inez Patin; and seven brothers, Sylvain Melancon, Jr., Henry Melancon, Doyle Melancon, Wade Melancon, Arthur Melancon, Andrew Melancon, and Louis Melancon. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 6 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. A Rosary will be recited at 12 Noon on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Chris Poche, Brady Berard, Tyler Berard, Dane Berard, Kenneth "Pete" Berard, and Clyde Guidry. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
