New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Monday, April 5, 2010 at St. Peters Catholic Church in New Iberia for Nola Folse Fortier, 95 who died Thursday, April 1, 2010 in New Iberia, following a short illness.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. ;
Rev. Charles Langlois ; will be the Celebrant. Granddaughters Hermane Anna Pflieger and Rachel Massey will serve as lectors. Gift Bearers include Rhonda Judice, Stephanie Franks, and Caroline Denny. ;
Musical selections that will be performed by Jodi Bollich and Karen Guidry include Just A Closer Walk With Thee, The Lord is My Shepherd, Be Not Afraid, Amazing Grace, Hail Mary, Gentle Woman, and On Eagles Wings. ;
Born August 18, 1914, Mrs. Fortier is survived by four children, Eugenie Schellstede and her husband Herman of New Iberia, Gene Fortier, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Lafayette, Ann Judice and husband Ronald of New Iberia and Peter and Karen Fortier of New Orleans. ; Known lovingly as MoMo Sugar Boo by her twelve grandchildren, ; ; Mrs. Fortier is survived by Hermane Pflieger and husband Bruce, Gretchen Schellstede, Hans Schellstede and wife Kelly, Cecelia Schellstede, Rachel J. Massey and husband Chris, Rhonda Judice and fiance Dionne Landry, Stephanie J. Franks and husband Jack, Gene Fortier, III and wife Anne, Blaise Fortier, Charles Keller and Jennifer, Caroline Denny and husband Jory, and Hunter Fortier. ; The most recent joys in her life are her twelve great -grandchildren Brett, Nicholas and Erick Massey; Sven and Lauren Schellstede; Eugenie Pflieger; Rex, Wes and Colt Keller; Avery and Emily Fortier; and Emery Franks. ; She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. ;
In November, 1982 her husband Gene Fortier, Sr. preceded her in death after nearly 48 years of marriage. ; Mrs. Fortier as the last surviving sibling of the Folse family was preceded in death by ; her parents Edgar P. Folse, Sr. and Rita Catherine Bayard Folse of New Iberia; three sisters Julian F. Watermeier, Catherine F. Colvin and Stillman F. Gesser; three brothers E. Jeffrey Folse, Wofford M. Folse, and ; Edgar P. Buzzy ; Folse, Jr.. ; Her first grandchild Christine Schellstede also preceded her. ; She also leaves her cherished canine companion Toofie.
Mrs. Fortier began her business career in l932 immediately following graduation from Mt. Carmel Academy. ; She began in her fathers business, E. P. Folse Sash and Door Manufacturer. ; ; Beginning in 1949 and for the next 25 years, she served as chief financial officer for Gene Fortier Lincoln-Mercury. ; Not resting on her laurels, she continued as CFO for Process Tool Company and ; in more recent years ; Herman J. Schellstede and Associates. Simultaneously, she opened and successfully operated Fortier Real Estate and Investments until her death. ;
Her true love was her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. ; Always a gracious hostess, she helped to instill in all the family a love for the camp at Cypremort Point. ; The camp which had its beginnings as her father Pawpaw ; Folses fishing camp was the ; place for numerous family gatherings over the years. ; ;
Her favorite hobby was managing and investing in real estate. ; Her incredibly inquisitive mind led her to adapting to computer technology at the age of 80, having recognized its analytical and managerial benefits.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Hans Schellstede, Gene Fortier, III, Blaise Fortier, Charles Keller, Hunter Fortier, Jack Franks, Bruce Pf leiger, and Chris Massey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Fortiers name.
